E-commerce website - hosting requirements?

Hi

I'm planning to create an e-commerce site using x-cart and I'm wondering if there are any requirements for how it is hosted...

Will I need a dedicated server? Or will a shared server be just as good? I know I'll need an SSL certificate but again - shared or dedicated? Any info you can give me would be great.

Don't waste your monry on dedicated servers. It's really unnecessary. Shared web hosting services are not only cheaper, but also more easy-to-use. I run 2 business websites through my shared web host (inmotion) for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.
