1- eCommerce has, if anything, boosted a whole worldwide economy allowing business to do business worldwide, not just locally. It was once where brick and motor stores depended solely on foot traffic from word of mouth and local advertising and now, with search engine marketing, and online marketing overall, they have exposure to their products worldwide.
The benefits of purchasing online do outweight the benefits of purchasing in store. Sure- buying in a store you can try stuff and and go the next day and return but online you are almost sure, 99% of the time, to find items cheaper than stores. You also have the comfort of shopping from your own home and many ecommerce sites offer free shipping.
2- Stores are reacting quite well to the online market. It gives THEM a chance to go and open a store online. Thats where they are moving now, ONLINE. Stores such as Bloomingdales, Nordstroms, are all heading online to compete with the online market while maintaining a strong presence at malls, etc.
