How To Find Good E-Commerce Developers

It is very common for companies to outsource some of their tasks or processes to specialized companies or individuals. This has two advantages. First, it allows companies to focus their time and resources on their core business and become better at it. Secondly, tasks that are necessary but not worth the money, equipment, or effort in training are handled by third companies who have already invested in that and can deliver good quality.

E-Commerce Developers

As of lately, the development of websites for trading online has been outsourced more and more. Companies prefer to focus and specializ on what they sell than on the computer skills necessary to create an e-commerce website. That's how e-commerce developers came to be and became one more of the specialized suppliers that companies go to.

However, companies need some knowledge and skill to tell the good and competent e-commerce developers from the bad ones. Here are two tips to point you in the right direction.

·    The developer's site. A very simple way of seeing the quality of e-commerce developers is just to go to their site and take a look at it. Since creating web sites is their business, logic dictates that they put their best work on their own site. Any error here is inexcusable. Take the time to read the page and see their writing style (look for typos!). Also check that every tab, option, link, and page works. Lastly, look at the design of the page. Is it nice looking and attractive? If what you see has mistakes or is not something you would like for your own page, then move on.

·    Their work plan. Good e-commerce developers will first give you an outline of what they plan to do. The more detailed, the better. The best ones will not only have very specific and measurable steps, but they will also have deadlines for each step and will be willing to put their signature on the plan. Take into consideration that they will usually be more expensive than the others. On the other hand, don't lose your time with a developer that doesn't want to present a plan or be specific.

If the site is for a company that has the ability to ship worldwide or at least to several countries, then price should not be your first priority. It can be tempting to go for the cheapest e-commerce developers but I would advise against putting your online sales on the hands of less than ideal people.
