Which is best for developing/creating an e-commerce website? WP or Joomla?
For creating a small goods selling business, which platform do you think would be the best?

Wordpress and Joomla are overkill for e-commerce, and do not perform well either. Their integration is way too complex for what is worth...
Google "e-commerce scripts": there are plenty around.
However, they will always be "sloppy" coded, as they are not especially developed for YOU (they try to be general).
One way is to use a free script, then trim down and edit the code to your needs. Unfortunately, to get it to work well will "cost" you a lot of time to learn how it works - probably longuer than writing your own from scratch!
I used to provide some simple e-commerce scripts (no fancy formatting), easy to adapt, on http://www.web2coders.com. That server, however, is now private and scripts are no longuer free.
I may re-install them if there is a demand.
