Networking tips for Mortgage Brokers
Building a Mortgage Broking business during a global financial meltdown has been very difficult indeed. Those of you out there in today's market who are seeking ways to grow your business and to gain strategic alliances in your industry I have some great tips to share with you. Nearly all of my business is done through word of mouth marketing. The best quality leads I get for new business is through someone I know who I have met at networking functions.
There are so many networking groups you can join to start the momentum and to establish relationships within your target market. Networking is now a huge industry where there are networking opportunities every day of the week.
Follow these 7 great tips to get rolling.
Tip # 1 - Decide on a group that is within your target location and where you would like to become known. There are many options from your local Chamber of Commerce, to BNI groups and more. Become a regular at this meeting and be persistent with the group. Most people do business with people they know and like. It takes months of attending meetings to achieve this.
Tip # 2 - Arrive early for the function, this way you can place yourself strategically within the room to gain maximum exposure and meet the organisers and other keen networkers.
Tip # 3 - Always wear a name badge, make it easy for other people to ask about your business by being visible. This also assists you to make light and easy conversation as you can clearly see what other people do.
Tip # 4 - Seek out opportunities to meet other synergy business owners. If you are a Mortgage Broker then meeting accountants, financial planners and book keepers etc would be your likely target market.
Tip # 5 - Ask open questions about their business rather than focusing on your business. People love to talk about themselves and their business and this makes it very easy to find out if this is someone that you can work with or potentially refer your clients to.
Tip # 6 - Have an elevator speech ready for your 30 second opportunity to talk about your business. I cannot highlight this point enough. Make sure you practice this regularly with your spouse or business partners. Be confident when you speak and have something interesting to say so people remember you.
Tip # 7 - Follow up. When you are given a business card this is an invitation that it is ok to contact and follow up after a networking meeting. Don't go in with the hard sales punch at this time, this follow up is all about building relationships. Make the email light and easy and perhaps request of them if you could add them to your data base so they receive your quarterly newsletter. You could even suggest a follow up coffee at a later time so you can learn more about their business.
