What are the advantages and disadvantages of an e-commerce site for a customer and the retailer?
For a customer, you don't have to visit, you can see the products online (if the website has a well-photographed and described catalogue of their goods) and you can pay securely online, as well as (usually) checking stock-availability, and sometimes seeing where you can collect the products from, or arrange delivery to your home or work-place.
For the retailer? That's easy! No shops to staff, to heat, no loss through theft, the ability to hold minimal stock levels, if buying in from a wholesaler, and then passing goods on with a charge on top. For goods such as clothes, which are subject to fashion and seasons, it's far better for a retailer to collect orders for ten winter jackets in one day, order them, recieve and then deliver them, than it is to hold a stock of ten jackets in 5 different sizes, 80% of which don't sell, which have to be kept all through Spring/Summer, in the hope of selling them in the next Autumn! Likewise, many independant music stores failed when they bought stock which didn't sell, that style of music goes out of fashion for a while, the goods sit on the shelf, taking up room which could be used by currently-popular bands! Over-stock if poison to the retailer - and if the goods are perishable, such as foods with a short shelf-life, more so.
