What are the risks of a business committing to an e commerce system?
Having the site hacked into is a big one. (You're responsible for any charges mad to your customers' cards by the hacker.) Being defrauded by hackers is another one (the site says the order is legitimate, you ship, you get a chargeback. It's your site, so you're the one responsible, not your account vendor.) There are other risks an experienced developer is aware of.
Bottom line - hire someone who's very experienced in setting up eCommerce sites. Doing one yourself is like doing brain surgery on yourself - cheap but foolish.
