Is there any online service where you can buy shares but spread your cash?
between several different companies, but they are held within one account?
It's just I have very limited funds - about £3000 - which I am now confident enough to put on the stock market.
I want to buy shares in around 3-4 different companies (to spread the risk) although clearly investing £750 in shares will give pitiful gains. At least £3000 would get a half decent return.
My question is: IS there a service which links your cash - or basically tracks the markets - but YOU get to decide which shares the account tracks?
If not, can anyone recommend a decent, cheap priced online stockbroker.

The rules which apply to gambling also apply to buying shares in that we should never invest more than we can afford to lose. So, if the £3,000 which you mentioned is your total 'nest egg' do not risk all of it on the stock market.
What you might be referring to is something called 'spread betting'. Not one hundred percent how this works out, but I think you will be in the business of buying into a bunch of different shares and taking a chance they all come up trumps.

Your safest bet will be to join a 'share or invester club'. There may very well be such a club near where you live.
